The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN), through its International Research Center of Excellence (IRCE), is implementing the "Improving Nigeria's Capacity to Use Data of Registered Stillbirths for Decision-making " (SPEED) Project. This initiative, funded by the Global Grants Program-Bloomberg Philanthropies Data for Health Initiative, spans from September 1, 2023, to March 31st, 2025.
A significant milestone of the project is the collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to publish a Stillbirths Dashboard on the Federal Ministry of Health's website. This tool which was officially launched & unveiled on 19th September 2024,shows stillbirth trends based on the quantitative analysis of FMoH &SW DHIS 2 2014 - 2023 stillbirth data,and other indicators essential for decision-making for the reduction of preventable stillbirths in Nigeria.
It was heartwarming to receive stakeholders' commitment towards preventing stillbirths in Nigeria during the recent launch of a #stillbirths dashboard by The Improving Nigeria's Capacity to Use Data of Registered Still-births for Decision Making (SPEED project).
Her Excellency, Distinguished Senator lpalibo Harry Banigo -Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health promised to ensure improved oversight for a more robust #stillbirths reporting structure by health facilities as well as a responsive, adaptive, and resilient health system to support better health outcomes for mothers and babies in the country.
WHO Representative, Dr. Femi James stated that WHO will work towards improving the visibility of the stillbirths dashboard locally and internationally to showcase Nigeria's effort in tracking stillbirth figures while intensifying efforts to improve the reporting of community stillbirths.

The vision of the SPEED Project (Improving Nigeria's Capacity to Use Data on Registered Stillbirths for Decision-making & Planning) is To enhance the visibility, accessibility and utilization of Nigeria’s stillbirth data for decision-making to reduce preventable stillbirths.
